Now is a good time to start saving, investing and planning for your financial future. If you start s
aving and investing early in life, you’ll have a great advantage over those who start later, even if they’re setting aside larger amounts of money. It is also wise to only borrow what you actually need while going to college, and not borrowing extra for a new car or fancy clothes or eating out. The interest that accrues on Unsubsidized Stafford loans and private, alternative loans will follow you for the next 15 to 25 years as you are repaying those loans. Interest not paid while you are in school capitalizes (adds to) on the principal balance (the actual amount you borrowed/accepted) and makes your repayment balance MUCH larger after you graduate. Unless you become the CEO of Microsoft, you may realize that your student loan payments damper your ability to buy a house or car or other major purchase after graduation.
