Summer Military Benefits, and Beyond Print E-mail
Friday, 20 March 2009, Written by Melinda Fedeler
For students receiving Federal military benefits though Chapters 30, 35, 1606, and 1607, you will need to notify Melinda Fedeler if you are taking summer courses and want to receive payment from your benefit program. Some students do not use their benefits in the summer if they are not full-time because any enrollment uses your months of eligibility and they want to use the benefits when they are full-time to get the maximum payment. If you are an active member of the Army National Guard and want to use your Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) benefit for summer classes, you will need to apply at www.virtualarmory.com as soon as you register for summer. Keep in mind that this benefit pays $4,500 PER YEAR, so summer usage will decrease the a mount available for Fall 2009. To use your Chapter 35 or GI Bill benefit during the summer, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or stop by the Financial Aid Office in Heston Hall. Keep in mind summer, fall and spring registration opens up later this month. If your current major is Undecided, you will need to declare a major within your first 4 semesters of enrollment. To change your major, you should visit with your advisor or print the Request for Change of Academic Program form from http://www.dsu.edu/academics/forms.aspx. Army National Guard students returning to DSU next school year will need to apply for FTA benefits at www.virtualarmory.com BEFORE Fall 2009 classes start in August. We do not have the new tuition and fees right now, but you can get them online at http://www.departments.dsu.edu/cashier/ by clicking on “Semester Rate Schedule” after April 15. Air National Guard students returning to DSU next school year should visit with MSgt Becky Langloss to be added to the approved state half tuition list. Please contact Melinda Fedeler at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 256-5018 with any questions. More information will be forthcoming on the new Post 9/11 GI Bill.
