Games designed in a single weekend by DSU students were mentioned in an article on http://gamasutra.com, the number one website dedicated to programming games. The article describes the 2009 Global Game Jam, which took place January 31 through February 2. DSU was one of 53 host sites around the world, where, in a single weekend, 1650 game designers scrambled to create games. They started Friday evening with just a theme and some constraints – and, by the closing bell on Sunday, had produced 370 games. DSU students along with other participants (including students from West Texas A&M) gathered in East Hall for the weekend, and produced four games: Narwhal 2: Revenge of the Whale; Geezer vs. Ninja; SON@R; and Everdarker. The gamasutra.com article can be found at: The story includes a screenshot from the game Narwhal 2: Revenge of the Whale created by DSU students Brian Albers, Steve Walders, Michelle Davis, and Josh Walsh. The section also mentions the team NajNin and their game, Geezer vs. Ninja, built by DSU students Bryce Foscheim, Pat Baker, Natasha Nichols, Dana Vorachek, Cody Thaler, Joe Svatos, and Nate Matteson of West Texas A&M University. These students, along with all the other Global Game Jam participants at DSU and around the world, deserve our recognition and congratulations for their weekend of exhausting labor and intense creativity!
