Now is the time to be registering for Spring 2009 classes and applying for NG Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA). As soon as you are registered for spring classes, the DSU Veterans Affairs Office will certify your credits and monitor your registration monthly, as long as all of your paperwork has been turned in and you are still degree-seeking with Dakota State. If your DSU VA file is incomplete, you should be receiving emails from Brett in the DSU VA Office. Please reply to his requests promptly to avoid interruption of your benefits.
Army NG members: Remember to apply for FTA before the start of the spring term at www.virtualarmory.com. Tuition is $88.20 per credit and mandatory fees are $105.65. You can view your billing information in SDePay in WebAdvisor. Don’t worry about getting the exact tuition and fees amount on your FTA application as we will bill the National Guard for the maximum amount you are eligible for. Air NG members: You may need to let MSgt Becky Langloss know that you are registered with DSU again this semester so she can make sure your name is on the approved list. FYI – Post 9/11 GI Bill: We are starting to receive a little information on the new Chapter 33 GI Bill effective August 1, 2009. We do not have all of the details yet, but will send out complete information when we have it. We do know that students will have to fill out a new application and that cannot be done until August 1. More information is also available at www.gibill.va.gov if you want to see if you will qualify. If you are a student that has served or is currently serving in the National Guard, Reserves, or regular active duty military and you have contributed to the GI Bill program but are not receiving monthly GI Bill benefits, please stop by the DSU Veterans Affairs Office in the basement of Heston Hall or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for an application and more information. You can also visit your Education Services Office or NG unit command or www.gibill.va.gov. If you are a student whose parent or spouse was permanently and totally disabled or killed while on active duty, you may be eligible for Chapter 35 dependent benefits. Please visit www.gibill.va.gov for more information and an application. |
