Mundt Library database trial -- EBRARY for online books Print E-mail
Tuesday, 28 April 2009, Written by Rise Smith
The Mundt Library has arranged free trial access until May 21, 2009 to online e-books from ebrary, a multidisciplinary subscription database with more than 43,400 titles. This trial is open to all staff/faculty and students.

*****To get started:

Go to ebrary  http://www.ezproxy.dsu.edu:2048/login?url=http://site.ebrary.com/lib/dakotastate
AND
Follow instructions in the Info tab to download the “ebrary reader.”
This is quick, but you’ll have to close and restart your browser.
[ If you are off-campus when you link to ebrary, you will need to first login with your library ID and password ]

*****More details:

1. To get access to all features, such as bookmarking, highlighting, and annotating pages:
     a. Revisit the Info tab to learn how to set up your Personal Bookshelf. Ebrary recommends creating this account and logging into it to get access to the advanced features.
     b. You do need the “ebrary reader” (the downloaded reader) to highlight and take notes in books.

2. Search for your keywords/topics using the Search box at the top, and approach the results in different ways:

     a. Select a book to read.
     1) Clicking on the book title will open the book in Quickview for reading only.
     2) Clicking on “ebrary reader” button will open the book in the plug-in reader, which has the highlighting and note-taking options.
             3) Clicking on the “table of contents” button under the book citation/description will open a contents window where the chapters with the most occurrences of the search terms are identified.       Link directly to those chapters from there.

     b. Select best chapters for your topic.
            1) Go back to the Search tab and use the “Chapter Rank” tab above the results to rank all chapters across all books according to the number of occurrences of the search words in the chapter.

3. In Quickview, use the magnifying glass arrow to jump directly to the occurrences of the words searched;  use the plain arrows to page forward and page backward in the book.
